At Burnaby Winter Club, hockey isn’t just a game — it’s a legacy. As a semi-private, non-profit hockey club based in Burnaby, B.C., BWC offers high-level development opportunities in a supportive and close-knit community.
Home to over 200 members, the Club features three year-round ice surfaces, including a regulation-size NHL rink, and operates the BWC Minor Hockey Association (MHA) — a program of nearly 20 teams across five competitive divisions. Members benefit from elite training facilities, experienced coaches, and a development model aligned with Hockey Canada standards.
BWC’s reputation is built on decades of success and a commitment to growing the game. From NHL greats like Paul Kariya, Cliff Ronning, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Mat Barzal, to dedicated young players just starting out, BWC is where tradition inspires excellence.
As a non-profit, the club thrives thanks to its passionate network of volunteers. Members and Academy families contribute not only financially, but through active participation, helping to maintain the Club’s strong community culture and high standard of service.
History
The Burnaby Winter Club was originally established on May 29, 1956 as the Burnaby Curling Club. Just two years later, in 1958, it evolved into a multi-sport organization and adopted the name Burnaby Winter Club, adding hockey and figure skating to its mandate.
As interest in hockey grew across the Lower Mainland, so did BWC’s focus on player development. With decades of renovations and investments into its facilities, the Club solidified its place as one of the premier minor hockey organizations in British Columbia.
In 2013, BWC expanded its offerings with the launch of its Hockey Academy Program, in partnership with Burnaby Central Secondary School. The academy provides an accredited educational and athletic experience and competes in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL), offering a pathway for student-athletes to train and compete at a high level while staying connected to their education.
From its early beginnings to its present-day role as a leader in youth hockey development, BWC continues to grow while honouring the values that shaped its legacy.
Amenities
Burnaby Winter Club’s facilities include two three-quarter size NHL rinks and one regulation size NHL rink. All three ice surfaces are available year-round and can be rented for both Members and commercial use. Please contact our office for available rinks and times.
