Your Season at Burnaby Winter Club

A season at the Burnaby Winter Club is built on structure, professionalism, and support. With full-time coaches, program directors, and administrative staff, families can expect a well-organized experience from start to finish. Team managers help coordinate the season, but day-to-day operations are handled primarily by BWC staff.

Getting Ready for the Season

The beginning of hockey season brings fresh energy—new gear, pre-season ice, and the chance to reconnect with teammates. For returning and new families alike, it’s an exciting time to jump back into the BWC community.

Your team manager will be your main point of communication throughout the year. While BWC’s staff handle the bulk of logistics and hockey operations, parents are welcome to support the team in small ways if they choose. (A full overview of optional volunteer roles is available on our Volunteer page.)

How to get started:

  • Step 1: Touch base with your team manager early in the season. They’ll outline what the year will look like and—if you’re interested—suggest simple ways you can contribute.
  • Step 2: Join your team on TeamSnap, our hub for schedules and communication. Accept the invite and customize your notifications to stay fully up to date.

Hockey brings big moments, competitive edge, and strong emotions—for players and parents. BWC prioritizes respect, professionalism, and sportsmanship in all situations. If concerns come up, our staff are readily available to help. We ask families to follow the 24-hour rule before raising any non-safety issue.

Supporting your athlete:

  • Step 1: Model the behaviour you want your child to carry—positivity, patience, resilience, and respect.
  • Step 2: Prioritize attendance. Practices, skills sessions, games, tournaments, and academic programming all build towards player development. Consistent participation helps your child grow and strengthens the team.

As the season wraps up, teams celebrate achievements, return jerseys, and enjoy their year-end events. Some families transition into offseason programs, while others shift into different sports or activities. Both approaches are encouraged.

Looking ahead:

  • Step 1: Consider offseason options. BWC supports multi-sport athletes and recommends avoiding year-round ice to reduce overuse injuries and maintain long-term enjoyment of the game. Still, many players love staying on the ice, and there are opportunities for those who want extra development.
  • Step 2: Keep an eye out for registration details for the next season. Registration typically opens in late April or early May.
