Answers to Common Member Questions

The hockey season runs from September (tryouts) to March (playoffs).

Registration for each season opens in April/May and closes either the last Friday in August before the September long weekend OR August 30 at noon – whichever comes first.

Registration has three stages:

  • Early Bird – runs for one month after registration first opens; members who register during this period receive $100 off their registration fee.
  • Regular – runs after the Early Bird registration; regular registration fees.
  • Late Registration – August 1 to registration close; late registration fees are $100.

Information such as age-specific schedules/practice times will not be known until the start of the season – players can expect 3-4 scheduled ice times per week and all practices/games are scheduled for after school/weekends.

Single goalies do not join as members/pay membership fees/dues but will still need to fill out an application and go through the interview process.

The registration fee covers player enrollment for the upcoming season, including standard practices and games. A separate team fee—which varies by team—covers coaching, jerseys, socks, tournaments, and any additional Hockey Development (HD) sessions. Team fees are typically collected in two installments during the season.

At this time, we can provide an approximate structure of two practices and one Hockey Development (HD) session per week. Exact days and times will be confirmed closer to the start of the season, once the full schedule is finalized in August.

Yes. Practices typically follow a consistent weekly schedule and only change if a makeup session is required.
Hockey Development (HD) sessions may vary slightly depending on ice and coach availability, but they are usually booked in blocks and stay consistent from week to week.

BWC operates six U9 teams: three major and three minor. This structure follows Hockey Canada’s initiation pathway, grouping U8 and U9 players together.

  • Minor teams are generally made up of first-year U9 players and focus on development.

  • Team placement is based on a combination of age, size, and skill level.

Tournament participation is determined individually by each team. Team managers are responsible for registering for events, and the number of tournaments will vary depending on the team.

A BWC membership provides:

  • Access to register with BWC Minor Hockey Association (MHA)

  • Member pricing for ice rentals

  • Access to free morning ice (when available)

Extra training and private sessions with approved instructors are available for an additional cost.

Yes. If you maintain an active BWC membership, monthly dues are required, even if your child does not participate in a team.

  • Registration fees are non-refundable.

  • Members who choose not to play after September tryouts are still responsible for fees from May through April.

Sustaining Membership (annual dues only) is available after five consecutive years of active membership. A return to active status requires three years as a sustaining member.

No. Team fees are separate and set after tryouts. These fees vary by team and may include:

  • Coaching costs

  • Jerseys and socks

  • Tournament entry fees

  • Additional HD sessions

These are two distinct programs:

  • BWC Academy is a high-performance hockey program for U15 and older. Membership is not required, but tryouts are mandatory and spots are limited.

  • BWC MHA is the Club’s sanctioned minor hockey association for players U7 to U15. Membership is required to join and participate.
